To 'grind' of the rust, emty the tank at first, at let it dry out.
Get some broken or crushed glass, best from a car window(!). Put it in the tank, and shake (not stir ;0)) until the rust is of.
Then clean the tank with water, and finaly remove resident water drops with i.e. white spirit.
When you put your Savage away, always fill it up to awoid condensed water. Eveantualy put ½ cup of caburator spirit in it, to 'soak' up water in the gas.
